The YMCA is the largest and most awarded provider of community recreation in Australia.  It is also the country’s largest provider of health and fitness services. Through our network of 364 YMCAs, over 7 million Australians every year benefit from YMCA health & fitness programs.

It’s the Y’s mission to deliver the highest quality recreational and leisure programs and services to communities throughout Western Australia, enhancing the lives of participants and their communities, and providing opportunities for children and young people to grow in body, mind and spirit.

We believe:

  • The Centre is a community resource and should be accessible to all members of the community.
  • The Centre should provide a range of sporting and recreation activities relevant to the needs of the community.
  • The Centre should seek to promote positive attitudes towards personal, group and community development through the promotion of healthy approaches to competition and achievement.
  • The Centre should be managed, in conjunction with the community, in a manner consistent with its philosophies and as a cost effectively as possible.

The YMCA WA Recreation Department currently operates 10 local government centres which attracted over 1.5 million visits last year, YMCA School Wellness Programs, My Time for seniors, and the Swim for Life Indigenous training and employment program.

Across Western Australia there are over 23,000 weekly attendances to YMCA facilitated sport and recreational activities. The YMCA delivers these activities through our facilities, as well via outreach programs run in schools and the broader community.

Safeguarding Children and Young People

The YMCA’s of Australia are committed to providing opportunities for all children and young people to grow in body mind and spirt and be protected from harm.

Download the YMCA Australia National Safeguarding Children Policy Statement.

We have an unwavering focus and commitment to safeguarding children first and foremost in everything we do. We have official accreditation as a Child Safe Organisation and a strong Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy and Procedures. These frameworks are helping us to continually embed a child and young people safe culture into YMCA WA.

YMCA WA recognises that all children and young people have the right to develop and reach their potential in environments that are caring, nurturing and safe.

YMCA WA considers any form of child/young person abuse, inclusive of emotional, physical, sexual abuse or neglect, as intolerable under any circumstances.

YMCA WA has a legal, moral and Mission-driven responsibility to protect children and young people from harm and to ensure that any incidents of suspected child abuse are promptly and appropriately managed.

A crucial aspect of Safeguarding Children and Young People is ensuring our staff understand the process for reporting any concerns they have about a child or young person’s wellbeing.

Programs and services that advocate for children and young people to air their concerns with our services, and be confident in offering feedback, is another important aspect of creating a culture where children and young people’s well-being is safeguarded.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss this very important topic with a YMCA WA staff member.
