YMCA Swim and Survive Aquatic Education

Building skills for life

You might call it a swimming lesson. We prefer Aquatic Education... as water safety, knowledge and swimming skills are just part of what you will gain with the YMCA WA Swim and Survive Aquatic Education program.

The development of personal qualities including self confidence & awareness, respect for aquatic environments, a positive attitude to activity and working with peers are unique benefits of the program. The Y’s AquaSafe program also challenges students to experience simulated open water conditions, to think for themselves & develop recognition of aquatic hazards.

Each year more than 150,000 children and adults take part in aquatic education programs at the Y. That’s a large commitment to the teaching of swimming and water safety to Australian communities.

The YMCA WA Swim and Survive Aquatic Education Programs:

  • are about much more than just learning to swim
  • combine water safety education and skill development with personal development
  • provide opportunities for students to build a healthy body, mind and spirit
  • place an emphasis on simulating open-water environments
  • are available to everyone from the age of six months
  • are designed in an effort to reduce the incidence of drowning and aquatic accidents.
  • encourages students to progress at their own pace are offered in small group classes.
